A German Shepherd Named Trooper Was Dumped at a Romanian Roadside With Maggots Eating His Open Wounds

Trooper, a German Shepherd, was discovered abandoned at the side of a road in Romania, dumped and left entirely alone. He had extensive injuries to his head, neck, the area around his ear, and his front leg. Whoever was responsible simply walked away and left him to die.

His wounds were appalling. Large areas of skin and the tissue beneath had been torn away, and the damage was so severe and so widespread that those who found him believe it was no accident. The working suspicion is that these injuries were deliberately inflicted by a person before he was abandoned.

When rescuers reached him, Trooper was still alive but suffering terribly. He was in severe pain, dehydrated and in shock, and maggots had already invaded his open wounds and were feeding on the injured tissue. That alone tells us he had been left untreated for a long, agonising time before anyone came to help.

Now Trooper is finally safe and receiving care through our AWIP-supported rescuer in Romania, but the lifesaving treatment he needs is more than the rescuer can afford alone. After everything he has endured, he deserves every chance to heal and to know that humans can be kind.
