At a self-proclaimed animal rescue in Citrus County, Florida, the very place that promised these animals safety became a house of death. Investigators arrived to find horrors waiting in nearly every corner, the bodies of animals who had been left to suffer and die.
Seven cats were discovered dead inside trash bags, their lives discarded like garbage. One dog lay dead, locked inside a transport carrier with no way out. Nearby were two dead turkeys and a dead guinea fowl, more victims of a place that was supposed to protect them.
The animals still clinging to life were in unspeakable conditions. Inside the home, one dog and nine cats were living in litter boxes overflowing with feces, forced to exist in their own waste. In a shed, 12 more cats had been crammed together with no access to air conditioning, baking in the Florida heat.
When it was over, investigators removed 43 animals from the property. The person who ran this so-called rescue was arrested and charged with 33 counts of aggravated animal cruelty for tormenting and killing the very creatures they claimed to save.
